Clothes’ Language


Clothes are one of the requisite needs for people. Since prehistory age people need to wear clothes. In that time people wore clothes for keep save and prevent their body. They did not measure clothes which they wore. In this century, people basically wear clothes in same reason but with some differences. People wear clothes to be a part of society, to affect other people, and to be different from other.

First of all, every nation or culture has their own traditional custom. They wear their custom during daily life. They prefer to keep their ancestor clothes style. So they can transmit their culture to next generation. For example, Scottish men wear skirt as a part of their culture. When I see a man who wears skirt, I know that he is Scottish. In addition, every army has a uniform for their soldier. It provides to make easy and discipline. Also it is put some dignity sign to uniform to categorize soldier. In this case, clothes give us some information about the person who wears it.

Second, some people wear different kind of clothes such as sexy and attractive clothes to influence other. It is not necessary to be sexy but these kinds of clothes are worn to influence other. For example, a businessman should always wear nice clothes. This is a part of his job. Their clothes should be ironed, new brand and clean. Also it is true when someone wear sexy clothes especially women, opposite gender interested in them or look them.
Third, people wear clothes for being different from others. Their clothe style is different from rest. In a society, generally everybody wear closed clothes but some people mostly young people want make differences at their society. For example, I saw some people in USA and they wear too tight jean. I have not seen this kind of jean before.

In consequently, clothes show people’s attitude, life style, social group, tradition. People wear clothes not only keep them warm, but also they wear clothes to show them custom, which society they are in, to affect other people and to be different from others. I think that we can judge people through their clothes.

Journal # 20 Managing time

It is sunday and 5:30 pm now. I started to write my journal. I know it is too late, but I have to write. I don't

Journal # 20 A Friend who I most of my time spent with.

I came to the USA to learn English. The reason I came to here is that this country's native language is English. I could learn English In my country too, but It would be hard to learn. I came to here to have much conversation with american who is native Language is English. When I talked with them, They could not understand me easily. There was a pronunciation problems. There is a way to improve my English, especially pronunciation. This way is wacthing television. Watching television helps me alot in that case. As you know watching television takes a lot of time. Because television takes a lot of time, people think that it is wasting time. In constant, television helps to people have good time, get news and learn more vaulable things.

There are buch of things such as baseball, basketball, cinemas going around us. We can not catch all of them. We dont have time or we dont have money. So we miss them. Fortunately, we got a machine called television brings to our house all these thing. People can have fun when they watch movie or a game. For example, I had a lot of homework and other thing to do.I stayed all week at home. When I got bored, I turned television on and I watched it. It was fun because I watched a comic show.

In 21. century, the world is changing so fast. Globalization is moving fast to forward. When something happned at one corner of the world, it affect other part of the world. So people need to get news from all over world or other part of their own country. For example, American soldier were battling in the Iraq. The soldier's family keep watching television to learn news about their children.In addition, When something is important for public, it can be announced with television. The majority people can hear this news. For instance, In my senior year, I had a exam but there was a lot of snow in Istanbul. Because public transportation did not work, I could not go to the school. I watched television and It has announced that the exam was postponed. Television reached me a good news. So, television helps people to get innovative news.

Another reason why television is not wasting time is that helps foriegner to learn new language. As we know, the bes way to learn second Language is more practising. We can not talk with people while we are at home. Furthermore, we can new vocabulary from television. Also we can learn how they use vocabulary in the sentence. That is good way to improve second language. Does not matter which language are people trying to learn. Television can help people to improve language.

Journal #19 Hallowen

It will be first time for me to celebrate Hallowen. I dont know whether should I celebrate or not? I will go Alp's Party. There is another question for me. Should I wear a custom? I am not sure still. I remember some of my friend joined a Hallowen Party at Vancouver, canada. They did not wear customs. They took some pictures from the party. They wore quiet interesting customs. By the way, some of them almost did not wear anything. Anyways, I will go to the party next saturday. I still dont know what to wear. but if possible for me I would wear my traditional custom which i have never worn before. I would wear a wide pants. you can on the picture.Iwould wear a white shirt, and i would wear vest over the white shirt. And I would wear a hat. That is my traditional clothes. But I am not gonna wear this at the party. It is surprise.

there are a lot of place to visit around the world. If I could visit a place, it should be Venice. Because of Venice is a port city, a historical city, and close to the Mediterranean sea. I always curious about history, so I would like to visit historical place. Venice is one the oldest city. In addition, I like mediterranean foods, so Venice is located by this sea, i would go there

Journal #14 american children

Before I came to the USA, like ever one I watched a lot of american movies. I picked up some information about american children. The impression I got from movies about american children was that they have had excessive independence from they should have. Another thing, most of american family force their children to move out from home after they get eighteen. It takes children unrespectful and merciless to their pwrents.

Journal #13 The Best Outdoors Holiday Place

There are a few place which can be place for vacation both in summer and in winter. Whistler is located 75 miles north of Vancouver, BC, Canada. In winter, When you look outside from window everywhere is white. Branchs of trees dangles down because snow are on the them. Trees is look like a umbrellas but a little bit longer.. It is unbelievable place for people who like ski. On the other hand, everywhere is green in the Whistler. First, there are good rails for hiking. When you walk on the those rail,you cannot see any other place. Just you and forest...second, it is best place to touch snow in winter. It is best place I have ever taken ofr vacation..

Journal #12 STUDYING AT STARBUCKS

I went to bad too late. It was 3 am. So then i woke up too 12 pm. I almost slept nine hours. When I sleep more than seven hours, I have a headache. Because of that i had headache yesterday. I tried to study but I couldn't. I got bored at home. Then I decided to go Starbucks to study. After I got a medium size regular coffee , I settled a table which pretty close to the door. After a while, I thought it was a good idea to study at Starbucks. I sipped my coffee and study. There were a few people studying at at there. It was raining outside.Some drop of rain were hitting windows. Isn't good scenery? Customers were coming in, taking thier coffee and exiting.This happened many times. It was automatic. Later I realized that there is a regular sound comes from air condition and it disturbed me. When every customer entered to the coffee shop or exited, air condition which over the door start to run. The sound was coming there. Also when the door opened, cold weather came form outside. The sounds and cold weather prevented to study there...

Journal #11 EVERYTHING START ALL OVER IN SPRING

Isn't amazing that everybody live different life in a same season? For example, when we live hot summer in nothern hemisphere, others live cold summer in southern hemisphere. It is kind weird but also it is exciting. In my country, we have four good season. Every season has different condition its own. When I was child I decided which season is my favourite season. I am in different condition now, but i am gonna write my childhood thoughts. Spring is first season of the year for me. Animal which has hibernited wake up, all trees open the flower. And we start to think about holiday. It was begining a new year. Summer was work for me. we used to go plateau, and take care of animals, and gathered crop. Fall is gloomy for me because of dark clouds. Because of the leaves fall down from branch of trees, I feel that something fall down from my body. Also, fall is season to be ready for strong winter. Winter is stand by season for me. If we resemble a year to a day, spring is moorning, summer is afternon, fall is evening, and winter is night.I alwyas prefer moorning because moorning is begining of day. it also begining of light.

I lived in a village. After snow melted and weather started to be hot, rain started to rain, new and fresh smell come from earth, my favourite season would started. In this season, everthing started all over.

I used to hate summer except swimming in the lake which the symbol of our village and eat fresh vegatable and fruit. Otherwise i had to work. I didnt like summer season. After all long day, days started to be short. Nights was getting long and more dark. We used to prepare for long and snowy winter. Winter was hibernite for me. Stay at home for long time to wait for stopping snow. Nice part of winter for me was looking from windows and watch snow. I used to look every piece of snow which all different from others and look like clover..

I really miss my chilhood..

Journal #10 A SPECIAL BROTHER

My sister, Selveda, her jappenesse fried, Kiyomi, and I went to hiking last month in Santa Barbara. We were talking about family and siblings. Kiyomi and we introduce our siblings in thier absence. When we were walking down to back Santa Barbara, Kiyomi asked "which your siblings do you more admire?" to my sister. At that moment, I immediately thought that my sister will say my brother, Abdullah, who is a doctor. Then my sister and I agreed that our all siblings will choose this brother. I think having good sense of humor, sensitive feeling and being open mind makes him more admirer person among not only my siblings but but also all people who I know for me.

Sense of humor is one of the significant talent for people. This is a gift which is given by God as nature for us. My brother has a good sense of humor. I remember when we talk a serious topic, he can us laugh with a word. Every body can think that word and say in the same time but the way he say is pretty different. Sometimes his laughing make me laugh.

Before I wrote my journal, I read a few journals. I noticed that all of them choose the person who influence them from their own family. Feeling is important for us because it affects people's behaviour. Then our behaviours influence other people's feeling. If we get along with someone along time , we are affected from them. If their attitude affect us we would admire them. So my brother has a good sensitive feeling to his family and friends. I obsevred that he try to dont get hurt people. Maybe it is part of his job, he always ready to help people who need aid.

Before I decided to do something, I would inform to my family. Most of them suggest their decision on what they expect from my life except my brother, Abdullah. First he listens my reason, and then he shares his idea with me whether he join me or not. Because of that I always inform to him first. By the way, I cant get along with person who has prejudgement. I havent seen him judge me before listen my reasons. The way he act to my movements affect me on my feeling.

All in all, his behaviour and life style influence me most among the other. I am happy that i have this kind of brother.Having a lot of siblings increases possibility for a person who influence you in your own family..

Journal #9 TECHNOLOGY and DATE

Dating is diverse from culture to culture. actually it is part of culture. Nowadays dating is different because of internet. People log on to web sites and searching for date. My cousin and me were good friends. After he left istanbul sometimes we played card game on the net. I learned his nick name. One day i was chatting on the a special web site. Involuntarily, i saw his nickname. Then i decided to play him. Immediately, I sign out and i create new account as a girl. then I loged in again. I found him and we start to talk. Because of I know him well, i know what kind of girl he like, i describe my self like he want. At the begining the conversation he said he has a ceremony next day, so he hass to go bed early. But when he saw I interested to him he didnt go to bed. We started to talk at 7 pm until 2 am. it was long day for me. it was funny to me. the end of conversation he decided to come my city which i live in so he want take my phone number. when wrote down my phone number he started to swear to me. and he didnot talk for along time. before i come to the USA we broke the ice...

Journal #7 LOST AND GRIEF

August 31, Friday evening. Since I came to LA I had not gone to night club. This friday night I desire to go out. I come to home late and i was tired. By the way, my neice had never woken me up before. When she wake me up, it was 12:30 pm. she her father, my brother, called me many times on cell phone. I dont know why but I left cell phone at down stair at that night. then i got the news from my brother. My three cousins and 3 people from their family had passed away august 31.
They were my cousin but I just saw them once in my whole life. three of them i havent seen them in my life. because They came to USA before I born. They were not close to me. Nevertheless, blood thicker than water. Although I didnt know them i feel really sad about them and their family, espcially my aunt. Two of them were kids. they were to young for death. But we dont know who gonna die first.

Journal #8 9/11

After all day work, I was tired. I took ferry from asian side of bosphorus to europe side of bosphorus to go home. I was trainee at a software company. I had sat out side of ferry and I was watching bosphorus. Then a cell phone rang. I did not care. A little bit later the man who sit next to me was talking on the phone. I just heard some word. He said in Turkish '' Amerika, ucak(plane) , terrorist. Then I turned to him, i saw his face resemble something strange happened. After he finished his phone call he said somebody hit the USA. I worried, because my sister and my brother was living in the USA.First, I thought them but one of my sister was in Turkey with her husband.As soon as i got out from ferryi tried to call my sister but i could not reach them to talk but it was impossible because phone line was so busy. I took cap to home and then i turned on tv. it was un believable. Two munite later one of my sister called me. I said thanks to God. Actually I had already learned terrorist attack was to New York City but hearing my sister's voice make me happy at that moment. Fortunately, they were alive.

A lot of people died in this terrorist attack. We all really sad about this tragedy. However, september 11 evokes me something else. I had plan to come the USA after my training. Unfortunately after 9/11 it was hard to come the USA especially if people form middle east. In spite of all those negative events i applied to visa, but i could not take it. 9/11 postpoened my american dream for a while.

Journal #6 MARRIGE and AGE

I always think my mom when this topic discussed. Because my mom get married too early in her 15, I am so concern about it. In my culture, all last generation, my mom and dad generation, married so early. They were telling me in my village people have to marry before age of twenty. If people dont marry before this age, it means they can not marry or nobody wants to marry to them. because of this and some other particular reason my had to marry to early. In my opinion fifteen years old a girl is still child. My mom has spent most of her times in her family first two years of marriage.. I have two sister they are their thirteen but they are still single.. By the time culture has changed. By the way, we can infer that culture can change. Culture is not static is dynamic.. In additon, my father alot of time insist me to get married. If I listened to him, I would have many kids now.:) By the way, I wanna have bunch of kids :):)

why people get marriage their late age. According to research, mostly people get married after their thirty. Because social and economical problems dont let people get marry early age.. As you know I am still not married but I am confused which age is the right age for married. Islam religion advice to muslim get marry early age. The reason getting marry early age is that everybody have a partner and this protect community from some criminal. It is genetic male and female need eachother for reaction. When this not happened via marriage, it possible some criminal happens. On the other hand, Getting marry early is hard to succed with it. If we look around us, no body can get marry in their early age. In my opinion, marriage age for men should be between 25-30, for women should be 22-28. why I choose this I age. I chose those age because the meaning of marriage to me sharing life with a partner for rest of life not for having sex. It is normal have kids in a marriage. So we marry to late we can not communicate with our children as well we marry early.

Journal #5 LAND OF OPPORTUNITY and LIFE

Before I answer the this question, How was my life in the back home and what I was expecting from the US, and finally what I found.

I had a ordinary life in the Turkey. I was working at a company as a computer technician. I had six years exprience at this company. I was so lucky. I had a rom at the same building which I working in it. I was living the center of Istanbul which the biggest and famous city.The other thing it was easy to reach other people with out car. People dont need car. First, I was drinking too much tea. I often eat Turkish food. I had not eat different food in there. I get use paly card games. and I spend most of my time by using computer such chat with friend or play game or surf on the internet.

Second, what I expecting from USA. To be honest, The USA was my dream. I was thinking that not being in the USA my life was not complete. when I were there, America was English, money, mixture culture, adventure and meet different people, espcially girls, from all over world.

Third, I think this is the answer of question, what I found or how I am living or another expression how my life has changed. First thing in my life has changed is my living situation. i was living alone. I am living with my brother and my brother' s house so far to school. I have to take bus and train to come school. It takes two hours. Last semester was so difficult for me. I got car this semester but it still takes a hour to drive because of traffic. I had not drunk tea until yesterday. I eat different food here. I had a few Korean students in my last class. One of them was really good Cook. She gave many parties and I joined part of them I ate some korean food. I rarely wore shirt in my country but now I often wear shirt to be come more californian. My sister told me californian mostly wear shirt. I had girl friend at back home. I didnt find what i expecting. I am still single. By the way, before I came here I broke up with my girl friend. :) I am tring to to gym what I didnt do at back home.

My final saying is that People cannot change so fast it takes times. I am here only six months. By the I will be more californian also american but it doesnt mean i forget my old life style...

Welcome to USA

Journal #4 Visiting a City Which the Symbol of a Country

I think finding topic for narrative is easy to every one because our life is full with action. Although we have a lots things to write it hard to me to put together. When I started to write narrative I came up with many diverse story from my life. I changed my narrative bunch of time after I wrote a little bit it. Because the topic was gloomy I wrote another narrative. It happened many times. Finally, I decided to write my trip of New York City.

Before visiting a amazing city not being nervous is unusual thing. New York City was my dream city which I want to visit when I first saw on the Tv. Looking toward to sky among the tallest buildings group in the world is unbelievable excitement. Even imagining to visit New York City brings exhilaration to me. In addition, I claim that if people are questioned '' what is the symbol of the USA? , Almost all of them say the answer is statue of independence. Of course we can not forget the Empire State Building, Times Square and others. Not only looking to sky among the buildings is amazing, also looking to Manhattan from Sky is wonderful. I havent looked but seeing on the picture or imagine excite me. Any way i have to start my narrative, other wise i can not find something to write..:)

It was March, 2007. I was ready to flight to the USA. I got my ticket to Rochester via New York City. When my plane was landing JFK airport, I looked down to see my dream city. I did not see which I expected because the airport was not near the Manhattan. Also I was another side of plane. I just looked ocean. I was disappointed. I waited at airport five hours. I fought Rochester, New York with out seeing NewYork City.

Two months later my friends and I went to New York City. First we made reservation in the New Jersey. The hotel we stay in was prety close to Manhattan but it was in New Jersey area. Because the hotels in Manhattan was so expensive we stay in New Jersey. We stayed there two two night three days. when we were there we visited Liberty Island, Ellis Island, Times Square etc.

First days we went to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. We got ferry from New Jersey side. First station was Ellis Island. Ellis Island is museum now. It was using for US customs. When people immigrate from other countries, they first came to Ellis Island. I heard this island at movie is called The GodFather. Because this movie is my favorite movie I was curious about it. The next station was Liberty Island. This Island is fomous island around world because of the Statue of Liberty. Actually it wasnt that amazing to look at it but the meaning of him so powerfull.

We went to Times Square at night. During night being at Times Square was wonderful. There were neon lights everywhere. Also There was Mtv studio overthere and a lot of people were wasiting in front of it. I thought a fomous person must be in it. We drove car at second street which so long and important street in Manhattan. Another day we went Central Park. It wasnt interesting to me because I saw parkbefore like Central Park but the thing affect me is how was possible this park between those tall building. One part of Manhattan is tons of cement but other side was green. There are two different world overthere. Isn't amazing? Then we went the top of Empire Building. It was exciting to drink coffee at the top of building and look around. And I wish I came to the USA before for being top of The World Trade Center. Finally we left from New York City.

Journal #3 Camping? or ...?

People like to relax and have fun time. Whenever we find available time we would go vacation. Labor day is on Monday this year. People compound it with weekend and they go to vacation to rest for three days from boring bussiness life. I did not go anyhwere for vacation. I deceided to stay home and for TOEFL test because two weeks later I have test. I supposed to be at home but i didnt. I am gonna explain my cousin's vacation not mine.

He had decided to go Bakersfield to camping with his family. He had prepared everything for camping the day before they leeave. He has single engine airplane and there are four seats in the airplane, and there is no room in the airplane for stuff to put in. They had put all stuff to a van and one of them, his brother in law has diren to up north california, Bakersfield. They were seven people totally, my cousin, the pilot, his wife, his brother, his sister and her two kids, one of them 5 months old, another one 2 years old. Those six people flight to Bakersfields with private airplane. The seventh one, my cousin's brother in law, drove van to there. They had put everything which they need at vacation such as camping stuff and fishing devices to van because they had thought to camping by lake. Then the van had left from Santa Monica early Friday to Bakersfield and arrive there early to meet them there. My cousin and others had taken off from Santa Monica airport to Bakersfield. But when they tried to land down they couldnt land because they were too high to land at first time. They had decided to turn around for second time but this turn was their last turn in their life. When they tried to turn, they make turn sharply and they lost airplane's controls. They crash down and burned.

After this happened, I didnt study. I went to their house for sympathies . God bless them...

Journal #2 LIFE AND WRITING

In the life, when some significant event happened, we generally say that we write or add history. Eventually everybody can remember or learn this occurrence. Furthermore, when really something important occurred in our life, we would tell someone or we would write down.

In this case, we can remember Edward Robb Ellis` say. '' We don't like writing diaries because we don't think our life is important enough.'' According to Ellis, if we believe our life is essential for us we have to write diary. Actually it is not only diary, can be journal or some notes. I thought that why Ellis said this. And then i remember that my father has argue with someone about some field in the village. Each side claim that they are own of this field. Later on we found some documents in the Ottoman archive. Then the problem was solved. If we look this example, we would comprehend that writing down is important for us. Another example, teachers take note and give grade to student in whole semester to evaluate student end of the semester. If they don't write down who participate to class or who did his/her homework, they cannot make final decision correctly.

In our life, all people try to take photo to keep it forever. So when people look to those pictures they can remember this time but they cant feeling. If we write down a diary for occurrence, we would know what we felt.. and we would consider that our life is important for us..

Hi,

It is first time for me to write blog although my major is computer science. I know it is looking strange but i havent tried before. Because i dont like to writing. In my whole education I just have written a few essays. I had tought that I wouldnt need to write essay in my life so I havent tried. Finally, when I travelled to Vancouver, Canada, I considered to write something about my trip.I thought that If I dont write something, I would forget everything about my trip. Espcially, my first flight was so interesting. Then I started to write down diary, but when went to back my country, I avoided to do it. Because I am not person who likes to write. After I came to the USA to study english for TOEFL test, I started to write essay and journal. In conclusion, although I think I dont have any talent for writing, I will try to write blogs and journal.Thanks for this oppurnity!
